Hardwood & Steel Slat Fence — Cheltenham

The job

A horizontal slat fence along the boundary of a brick house in Cheltenham. Hardwood slats run between slim black steel posts, so the timber does the work and the posts almost disappear.

The ground falls away along the footpath. Rather than rake the slats, each panel steps down to keep every slat level and the top line clean from the street.

Slat fences are less forgiving than palings. Every gap is on show, so the slats are spaced evenly from the first panel to the last.
